NASA Logo history
The NASA logo has been through many iterations since the agency’s inception in 1958. The original logo was simply the text “NASA” in a serif font. In 1959, the logo was updated to include a stylized vector graphic of a spacecraft orbiting a planet. This logo was used until 1975, when NASA commissioned graphic designer Richard Danne to create a new logo.
Danne’s design featured the now-iconic “meatball” insignia, which was inspired by the Apollo program. The design includes a red chevron pointing to the north, symbolic of NASA’s mission to explore space. The meatball insignia was used until 1992, when it was updated to include the agency’s name.
In 2010, NASA unveiled a new logo designed by Michael Okuda. The logo is an evolution of the previous design, with the agency’s name written in a modern sans-serif font. The new logo also includes a subtle nod to NASA’s history, with a starscape hidden in the negative space of the “A” in “NASA”.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was established on October 1, 1958, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The agency is responsible for the civilian space program, as well as aeronautics and aerospace research. NASA logo was designed by Jim Garvey, who was an employee of Graphic Arts Division of NASA. The agency’s first administrator, T. Keith Glennan, oversaw the development of the agency’s iconic logo.
What is NASA?
NASA is an American space agency that was founded in 1958. NASA’s mission is to “pioneer the future in space exploration, scientific discovery and aeronautics research.” NASA is responsible for the US space program, including the Space Shuttle, the International Space Station, and the Hubble Space Telescope. NASA also conducts research into Aeronautics, Earth Science, and Space Technology.
The NASA logo was designed by an aerospace company called “Logo Works” in 1974. The company was founded by a man named Richard Danne, who also designed the logos for the Apollo Moon landing program and the Space Shuttle program. The font used for the NASA logo is called “Helvetica Bold”, and it was created by Swiss typeface designer Max Miedinger.
There’s more to the NASA logo than just its simple, iconic design. The colors of the logo are significant too. Blue represents trustworthiness and loyalty, while red stands for courage and leadership. Together, these colors represent the core values of the NASA team.
